Henry Hoffman

Henry is a multidisciplinary artist born and currently living in London. His work explores the themes of traces, symbolism and memory. Using field recordings of spaces, Henry’s work offers the listener insights into our connection to environment and surroundings; addressing a connection and relationship we often need to be reminded of in modern life.

Henry’s paintings tend to focus on nostalgia and our innate ability as viewers to create story through abstraction. In his most recent body of work the subject of ontology becomes a central focus; exploring the way we can alter and receive information differently depending on how something is viewed. The work observes how the many forms of a person, place or thing gives the capacity for anyone to create their own reality; an environment of their own design.

Henry’s contribution to The Liminal Compass includes the many and varied field recordings he gathered on expedition to the Tayos Caves. He is also a contributor and production advisor on the forthcoming immersive sensory installation designed by Tamsin Cunningham and Eileen Hall and centred around Tayos Caves, Ecuador; the long-form composition by Jon Hopkins.
